This week started off with some controversy, many people just wondering about certain states having extra gate practice? Or even, why the track seemed maybe a little bit too rough ? But that was completely forgotten once the first race day came around. The track was smooth, in places, fast and out of control. The small arena filled with masses of people and truck loads of exciting racing including plenty of crashes made for what some were saying was ‘The best race meeting they had ever been too.’ After all it is the Nationals where else can you go with groups of up to 100 riders per class. The start hill steep and the gate dropped fast, no problems there apart from a few sprockets rolling down before the gate came up and getting stuck half way. But they are just learning. The first straight was where most of the races were won or lost. First into the long sweeping corner was usually the first one out. From there the chase was on, plenty of moves and skill as well as quite a few face plants saw the second straight down. The last two hair pins bought whole fields down making a few ‘Bradbury’ wins. Those caught in the wrong spot or not guarding their lines were bound to come down. Racing was all run through smoothly, many making qualification rounds for the up and coming world champs in Adelaide. Bike security was, well most people didn’t use it and there were a few bikes stolen 16 I heard was the total (Quiet disgusting really as there were really only BMXer’s there) . Pro shops were in attendance outside doing a roaring trade on product such as helmets that seemed to be getting smashed up all over the track and of course everything for the kids that won and the kids that lost to cheer up or reward. All in all a great week was had by all who attended even those going home with maybe not the placing they were aiming for. We hope to see everyone in Casino to race the kiwi’s!
